Dear pro-lifer: Is there any way to prove that contraception is wrong? | LifeSiteNews.com

theincast:

A well-written article about the problem with contraception.

A well written article that finally confirms what we’ve all known for a very long time: Pro-lifers aren’t really as much concerned with lowering abortion rates and saving babies as they are with the sex you’re having.

Seriously? I highly doubt even the author of this article hasn’t had some form of recreational sex not intended for reproduction. We’re humans, it’s what we do.

If the main concern of the pro-life movement was actually reducing the amount of abortions that happen they wouldn’t really give a shit what kind of sex you were having as long as it’s consensual and safe.

EVERYBODY LISTEN UP BECAUSE I LEARNED SOMETHING THIS WEEK

I was listening to Frank Schaeffer, a religion commentator whose father actually invented the modern-day pro-life movement, talk about the roots of anti-abortion sentiment. Did you know that being “pro-life” is a relatively new phenomenon? The movement was created as a response to feminism and the sexual freedom of the 60s. Older white upper-middle-class Americans (familiar dynamic much?) wanted to push back against what they perceived as the growing promiscuity of the younger generation. Conservative candidates needed an issue to support to show that they disagreed with those evil slutty girls and free-loving hippies. But they couldn’t suggest making sex illegal.

So while they realized they couldn’t directly punish sex, they *could* punish the people who HAVE sex and try and deter easily impressionable young people from having it. So they decided to create the “pro life” movement.

Have you ever wondered (rhetorical question coming here) why the pro-lifers don’t care about food stamps, universal healthcare, affordable childcare, or improving education? Or funding Planned Parenthood or anything else that’s proven to decrease the number of abortions that occur? Because preserving the lives of children was never the point. It was to demonize and punish people who have sex by telling them they would be legally forced to carry a pregnancy to term and give birth. They didn’t care, and don’t care, about the life of the mother or anything that happens to the baby once it’s born. The movement was founded as a political ploy to guilt, shame and punish women for having sex.

(ETA: Seeing this post reminded me that I wanted to write up the history of the pro-life movement. I forgot to respond to the post itself. Sex is meaningless when you aren’t actively trying for a baby? HASHHAHSHHHAHAHAH ok then.)

Sex Worker: Still not asking for it by dyke-recovery
I’m a feminist and a sex worker and i am so very, very sick of the “is it rape or theft if you fuck a hooker?” or the i use to get “You work in a strip club you shouldn’t get pissed off when someone tries to touch you, you’re the one working there”. Sorry but this is a service, not the selling of ones’ body or body parts. We own us, we decide how much we do, NOT the client or patron. We have the same rights as every other woman; to feel safe not only in our personal lives but in our work lives. It is not okay to do more than what is agreed to when paying for a service from a sex worker. If you are told no, you are told NO.
If a banker gets robbed did he deserve it because he is a banker? No.
If a soldier is shot during war, did he deserve to be shot purely for being a soldier? No.
Does a psychologist deserve to be verbally attacked because they’re paid to listen to other people’s thoughts? No.
So does a sex worker deserve to have their services abused purely because they are working in the sex industry? No.

Um I’m pretty sure a “sex worker” is just a fancy term for prostitution so I think that deems your argument invalid

Um actually a sex worker is a prostitute, a stripper, a cam worker, a porn star a porn model, a sugar baby so no my fucking argument is not invalid and if a prostitute says “hey man i don’t do x service” THAT DOES NOT GIVE THE CLIENT THE RIGHT TO DO X SERVICE JUST BECAUSE CLIENT HAS PAID FOR A SERVICE AND IF A SEX WORKER OF ANY KIND INCLUDING A PROSTITUTE SAYS NO THE ANSWER IS NO. “NO” DOES NOT BECOME INVALID JUST BECAUSE THE PERSON SAYING NO IS A PROSTITUTE.

Guys I’m allowed to say “no” to helping someone buy dog food if I’m too uncomfortable with them. Restaurants are allowed to say “no” so servicing you if they feel uncomfortable. Bars are allowed to say “no” to selling someone drinks, and they can kick you out of a movie theater for being disruptive.
If you’re threatening violence at any place of business, that business is allowed to refuse service.
So why would a sex worker have any different rights?

That’s clever. Using this argument forever, now.

pissed that this even had to be said.

[Parents should] recommend some books with female leads that your son would enjoy reading. If your next question is “Why?,” then ask your daughter why she liked Harry Potter. She might say it was a good story, great characters, and a fantastic world. Who cares if the main character was a boy? In fact, girls will pick up a book with a hero or heroine equally. According to my excellent librarian resources, boys will actively avoid books with a girl as the main character. What’s the problem? I have no idea. Why should you encourage your son to read books with heroines? That’s easy. You want your son to grow up knowing that a strong female for a friend, wife or boss is normal and good.

I read several dozen stories a year from miserable, lonely guys who insist that women won’t come near them despite the fact that they are just the nicest guys in the world.

..I’m asking what do you offer? Are you smart? Funny? Interesting? Talented? Ambitious? Creative? OK, now what do you do to demonstrate those attributes to the world? Don’t say that you’re a nice guy — that’s the bare minimum.

“Well, I’m not sexist or racist or greedy or shallow or abusive! Not like those other douchebags!”

I’m sorry, I know that this is hard to hear, but if all you can do is list a bunch of faults you don’t have, then back the fuck away..

..Don’t complain about how girls fall for jerks; they fall for those jerks because those jerks have other things they can offer. “But I’m a great listener!” Are you? Because you’re willing to sit quietly in exchange for the chance to be in the proximity of a pretty girl (and spend every second imagining how soft her skin must be)? Well guess what, there’s another guy in her life who also knows how to do that, and he can play the guitar. Saying that you’re a nice guy is like a restaurant whose only selling point is that the food doesn’t make you sick. You’re like a new movie whose title is This Movie Is in English, and its tagline is “The actors are clearly visible”.

The reality is that so-called pro-life movement is not about saving babies. It’s about punishing women for having sex. That’s why they oppose birth control. That’s why they want to ban abortion even though doing so will simply drive women to have dangerous back alley abortions. That’s why they want to penalize women who take public assistance and then dare to have sex, leaving an exemption for those who become pregnant from rape. It’s not about babies. If it were about babies, they would be making access to birth control widespread and free and creating a comprehensive social safety net so that no woman finds herself with a pregnancy she can’t afford. They would be raising money for research on why half of all zygotes fail to implant and working to prevent miscarriages. It’s not about babies. It’s about controlling women. It’s about making sure they have consequences for having unapproved sex.

How I Lost Faith in the “Pro-Life” Movement

This is an amazingly powerful, clear and well-researched article that exposes how the “pro-life” movement is anything but.
