WARNING FOR THOSE WITH OR RECOVERING FROM EATING DISORDERS, ESPECIALLY ONES WITH OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE HABITS, WHO ARE THINKING OF DOWNLOADING THE IOS 8 UPDATE. PLEASE REBLOG.

nonbinaryparenting:

frilton:

The new IOS8 update contains an app named Health which CANNOT BE DELETED.

The app allows you to choose which aspects of your health you choose to monitor, but available categories include “Body Measurements”, which includes body weight, and “Fitness”, which contains sections for calories consumed and calories burned.

While this may be useful for those looking to monitor their fitness, it could be triggering and harmful to those suffering with or in recovery from eating disorders, especially in sufferers with obsessive compulsive tendencies they find it very hard to abstain from, such as calorie counting, body measuring and weighing.

Whilst of course the app cannot force you to use it, it cannot be deleted, so will be present within your apps and can be a source of feelings of temptation to record numbers and of guilt and judgement for not using the app.

If you personally feel you could not emotionally handle the presence of this app,  and it would be detrimental to your recovery, please do not download IOS8. I do not know if a new IOS can be avoided permanently (if anyone has any information on this please do add it to the post), but if it cannot then please use the time you have to prepare yourself for the app, and to reinforce reminders that you do not have to calorie count, you do not have to weigh yourself, you do not owe proof of exercise to anyone, person or app.

reblog this please - it is so incredibly shitty of apple to do this

Those who already have or can’t avoid the upgrade can put it in a folder on the very last page of their apps (assuming IOS8 still lets you do that which I assume it would?) and maybe put several other useless apps in the folder before it so it’s not even visible as a mini-icon. At least that way it won’t be immediately visible every time you turn on your phone.

Cops have been put on notice: Let the cameras roll.

Camera-shy cops across the city were reminded they can’t legally take action to stop someone from filming them while they’re on the beat, the Daily News has learned. The refresher was provided in a memo the chief of department’s office distributed to all police commands Wednesday.

“Members of the public are legally allowed to record police interactions,” the memo states. “Intentional interference such as blocking or obstructing cameras or ordering the person to cease constitutes censorship and also violates the First Amendment.”

Cops can take action if videographers and shutterbugs “interfere with police operations,” the memo notes.

spread this like wildfire

when you see abuse, take out your phone and film that shit.

Post it on youtube, send it to the news, let the whole world hear about it.

Just be careful. It is actually illegal in some states.

True.  FYI:

In thirty-eight states it is explicitly legal to film on-duty police in public.

Twelve states—California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Washington—require the consent of all parties for you to record a conversation.

However, all but 2 of these states—Massachusetts and Illinois—have an “expectation of privacy provision” to their all-party laws that courts have ruled does not apply to on-duty police (or anyone in public). In other words, it’s technically legal in those 48 states to openly record on-duty police.

Read the state-by-state guide here: http://www.rcfp.org/reporters-recording-guide/state-state-guide

Don’t forget to use the Bambuser app just in case the cop you’re filming decides to blatantly break the law!

HEY.

Stop reblogging that post about calling.emaling McCulloch to take the Mike Brown case. The protestors do not want him prosecuting the case due to his multiple familial ties to the police department. (Source 1, 2, 3)

So repeat, do not email or call McCulloch to take the case. He will be unfairly biased in favor of the police.

Reblogging this and deleting the post from yesterday.

For all the protesters out there:

If you aren’t aware, cops love to destroy the phones of people who record them.

So next time you’re in a situation where you are recording an officer and fear for the safety of your video evidence, try using the Bambuser app.

It uploads your video online to your Bambuser account while you record it. You can also stream the video live. This way your videos are saved online, safe from the hands of the uniformed pigs.

IT EXISTS!!!

my brother is a police officer and these are all v true and things he made sure i knew but also remember the police can lie lie lie. the best thing, as mentioned, is to yell “i do not consent” repeatedly and hope someone will hear and act as an eyewitness for you

this is super important and we need to circulate this especially with the upcoming chicago raid ?? we need to do everything we can to protect possible victims of police brutality and hate crimes. it is not okay to break the law that goes for the people being arrested and the people arresting. stay safe.

Help the fight against police brutality!

You should definitely do this, but please be safe and knowledgeable about it! Here are some resources for how to safely film/photograph police brutality, as well as information on YOUR rights as you do so:
7 Rules for Recording Police
Know Your Rights: Photographers
Tips for Recording Police Interactions
Please be aware that different states have different laws on the matter.  Check into them so you can know you specific laws, and what to expect if you film the police.  Also check with your state’s chapter of the ACLU; many of them have tips on this matter, and some have pocket foldouts of your rights that you can use to convince the police that no, you aren’t doing anything wrong.

Stay woke.

Chicago tomorrow is going to be really really ugly the timing of this is deliberate PLEASE stay safe

what’s happening there?

CPD, FBI, and Illinois State Troopers are going into “troubled neighborhoods” to hunt down criminals for the next 60 days or so.
http://abc7chicago.com/politics/illinois-state-police-deployment-in-chicago-starts-thursday/256983/

SPREAD THIS LIKE FIRE. POLICE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FBI AND CPD ARE CONDUCTING MASS PROFILING AND OCCUPATIONS OF RESIDENTIAL AREAS. THEY ARE TARGETING BLACK AMERICANS.

Like everyone else has said: this isn’t a coincidence and “criminals” is code for Black Americans. Please stay safe.
