daily reminder not to reblog missing people posts unless you actually know who the person in the photo is and that they really are missing, there are shitheads out there who look for people hiding from them. an abusive husband found his wife and child through such a post. they were under protected identity but he found them through a missing person post online.

Um this is really scary and I would have never considered this.

True shit
A review by one of the folks sums it up perfectly:
“What worries me about Yahoo! buying Tumblr is how it would choose to incorporate the website into its email and homepage features.  One of the reasons why Tumblr is so unique is because it’s a niche market.  By adding more users who don’t fit into this niche, it would make it more difficult for communities to develop within Tumblr, and Tumblr would have to change to accommodate these new users.  Tumblr as a website is not the kind that you can sign up for in a day and be on your way.  It is a website crafted so that you can immediately post but must spend several weeks, sometimes even months, to build a community.  With new users who would not be willing to spend time growing a community, Tumblr would have to be changed, which would alienate its current users.  Those users have spent time and effort to make Tumblr what it is today, and they are the ones who spend time on the website daily.  A user who is checking onto Tumblr because it’s attached to their homepage is not going to be as strong of a user nor as dedicated.  By changing the website to suit this new user, you would lose the strong users while building an undedicated usership.
To any website that would think of buying Tumblr, they must understand that it is a website that cannot be changed to make it more user friendly to a casual blogger.  I think that many Tumblr users would be less worried about a buy-out if they were promised that their communities and ways of using Tumblr would not be changed.  No one is going to mind Yahoo! buying the website and gaining a few extra million dollars per year from the minimal advertising; what we will be upset with is if a company like Yahoo! then changes the website to increase casual users and decrease dedicated users.  Yahoo! would gain nothing by losing this “cool” group of bloggers in an age group they so desperately want to reach, so they must cater to these individuals by leaving the website exactly as is.” - houseoftombombadil
As much as is does sound like a load of bullshit for someone to buy Tumblr, it’s a possibility.  I Personally think it should stay independent and I hope David Karp keeps a hold of it like his own child. Or we make enough noise to where such major changes (if bought) will not happen. I would hate to see Tumblr turned into an advertising dump.

We’re not a ‘hip fad group’ to be marketed to. I hate the fact that’s all we look like to businesses in the end.

Help Kiera with her legal bills – she was expelled and arrested for felony after a harmless science mistake

deafmuslimpunx:

Until Monday morning, Kiera Wilmot was a well-behaved student at Bartow High School in central Florida with good grades and an interest in science. But that morning, she mixed some chemicals together in a small water bottle that caused a tiny explosion. There was a bang and some smoke, but nobody was even close to being hurt.

I remember doing experiments like that in high school. But Kiera was immediately called to the principal’s office, expelled from her school, and arrested by the police (accused of an adult felony charge). If she gets convicted, she could even lose voting rights and have lots of trouble finding employment and housing in the future.

I’m inspired by the people (especially scientists) speaking out on Twitter with solidarity for Kiera. One look at the hashtag #KieraWilmot shows the outpouring of sympathy for what’s happened to her. Curiosity is not a crime, and we shouldn’t be treating it like one!

To help her out, I want to collect some funds for Kiera’s family for the large legal bills that will surely come up as she fights her case in court. She deserves a top lawyer! If we manage to raise any money beyond her legal needs, it should go towards a scholarship fund for her. We need more young American women studying science, and they shouldn’t be afraid of taking chances.

UPDATE: This campaign has been verified by Crowdtilt, let’s start raising some funds for Kiera!

She is just a kid. Please help out, donate, spread the word and reblog.

I’ve created these flyers for a school activist project where I bring more attention to the women in history that have been forgotten or ignored. This blog will be an extension of those flyers where I post longer biographies of these women and other bad-ass women like them. Too often women’s achievements have been pushed aside, either by others in their lives, or else by the historians who choose to ignore them. This tumblr is dedicated to celebrating them and bringing their achievements to light!

This is ALEX, who goes by NOWHERE MAN on Facebook. He is THIRTY YEARS OLD and attends SCA events, attends anime conventions, and hangs out in the Delmar Loop. He is POTENTIALLY ARMED and owns an assortment of weapons including KNIVES, BOWS, SWORDS, DAGGERS, ETC. He is a GUN RIGHTS ACTIVIST and I have reason to believe he OWNS SEVERAL FIREARMS. He drives a CAR and a MOTORCYCLE.

This past weekend at Anime St. Louis I made the mistake of letting this guy stay in a room I had available. During the convention he sexually harassed NO FEWER THAN THREE TEENAGERS. His targets seem to be 16-18 YEAR OLD CISGIRLS, TRANSGUYS, OR ANDROGYNOUS PEOPLE, particularly those who are THIN ENOUGH THAT HE COULD OVERPOWER THEM.

He has been STALKING one person since JANUARY, including sending them harassing messages, telling others that they are dating and referring to them as both his girlfriend and his “ex,” using emotional manipulation to convince them not to tell anyone, and then CLAIMING THAT THEIR FATHER THREATENED TO KILL HIM when all that was said was to basically stay the fuck away from his kid. He spent half the convention crying to us about how he is HEARTBROKEN that the teenager he’s stalking IS DATING SOMEONE ELSE.

He took TWO DIFFERENT GIRLS to his [my] hotel room, that he was SHARING WITH MY TWO COWORKERS, and fucked them both while my coworkers were at the con doing filming work — essentially ALLOWING TWO STRANGERS INTO A ROOM WITH OUR CAMERA EQUIPMENT.

He FELT UP A TEENAGER’S THIGH AND GRINDED UP AGAINST HER during the Saturday night rave/dance and WOULD NOT STOP WHEN SHE SAID SHE WAS UNCOMFORTABLE.

He REFUSED TO STOP TOUCHING/POKING/HUGGING my 17 year old friend and got REALLY WHINY when we told him to FUCKING STOP IT.

Please stay the fuck away from him. If he so much as sets foot ANYWHERE the fuck near Promstuck I will CALL THE GODDAMN COPS.

Please, please, if your parents are willing to come help chaperone promstuck and be security, I need their help.

Can Town is a safe space. This is absolutely beyond unacceptable and he will not be allowed anywhere near our space.

This doesn’t have more notes…why?

RHPolitics: On Kate Spade.

feminist-space:

sheelzebub:

sourcedumal:

sequinsandsideeye:

I’ve been a loyal Kate Spade fan, nay lover, for years. One of my first indulgence bags was this boxy black nylon number that every girl on campus had. I loved Kate Spade. The bright colors! The beautiful clothing and accessories! I just knew I would be a fan for life.

So when it came time to buy a new continental style wallet to carry my checkbook (yes, I still carry a checkbook. Fight me) I knew Kate Spade was the perfect place to find one. I went to the store in Lenox Mall early in 2012 and dropped $200 on the Cobble Hill Lacy. It was cute, functional and I would have it forever. Done and done.

Unfortunately, in December of 2012, not even a year after purchasing the wallet, something got stuck in the zipper and it wouldn’t close anymore. Womp. I was super bummed but just knew that the lovely folks at KS would make this better. I didn’t want anything for free, hell I didn’t even expect an exchange, I was just hoping they could send it off and maybe replace/repair the zipper on this $200 wallet because let’s be honest. That’s a lot of cheese for something that just holds money.

On a Friday evening, I called the store, told them about my broken zipper and they told me they could absolutely send it off and get it repaired. No sweat at all! HOORAY! Exactly what I wanted to hear.

Saturday afternoon (right around Christmas, mind you) I go to Lenox with my friend, White Paige* (WP for short) to take care of the wallet situation. WP has some other shopping at Ralph Lauren right next to KS, so we split up. Just for a point of reference, the hair is laid to the gods, I’ve got on khakis, a chambray button down and my J. Crew field jacket. Typical everyday Alishan garments. Paige has on wunderunders and a t-shirt. Typical WP garments. Not entirely relevant but details are fun.

Once I walk into the store I have to wait approx. 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledges me but meh, it’s Saturday at the mall. No bigs. Once I tell the cute little thing behind the counter what I need, she gets the manager for me. We will call the manager, White Suzy.

Suzy comes over, I politely tell her the story (called yesterday, broken wallet, just want it repaired, will pay for it, blah blah) and she just looks at me. I stand there awkwardly because uuuuuhm, say words, woman! She then tells me that I’m going to need a receipt. Say what now? It’s a wallet from March, not a flat screen TV. I apologize and tell her I didn’t keep the receipt. She suggests I go home and bring back my credit card statement to prove I purchased it.

 Prove. I. Purchased. It.

At this point, I’m annoyed. Suzy is being condescending and I’m not here for it. BUT. I want my wallet fixed so I chill. I explain that I don’t generally keep credit card statements from 9 months prior. Again, I didn’t want anything for free, I just wanted this woman to offer a bit of assistance. The wallet is clearly from Kate Spade as they still currently sell it no more than 10 feet from where I am standing. She repeats again that she will need my receipt or that she won’t be able to help me.

I’m at about a 6 on the annoyance scale so I tell her I will see what I can find out and come back. She walks away. Cool.

Paige meets me outside of KS and I’m not at about an 8 because WHO KEEPS THE RECEIPT FOR A WALLET FROM MARCH!?! It didn’t sit well. We continue on with our shopping and on our way out, I ask Paige to run into Kate Spade and see if she has any better luck.

Paige rolls her eyes because I stay having a conspiracy theory, but obliges. I’m waiting in the mall. She goes in, asks for a manager and out comes Suzy. Paige didn’t even get out her full request before Suzy is offering to exchange the wallet on the spot.

 Say what now?

Not 30 minutes prior, you’re telling me I need to go home to get my credit card statement to prove that I actually purchased the wallet, and my blonde Caucasian friend comes in with the SAME wallet and you are offering to exchange it with no receipts.

Now listen, I get that it may have been an accident. It may have been a fluke that White Suzy was stank to me (when I hand to God, was really, REALLY nice) and really lovely to White Paige. I may be blowing this out of proportion but yo.

 image

So I did the natural thing and started crying in the parking lot because racism is exhausting y’all. Being treated like shit makes me cry in public sometimes. It’s draining. I know online I can be bossy and blah blah but I do right by people in customer service positions because I have been there. I am polite and try really damn hard to not be a cunt in public.

After a few weeks and talks with friends, I decided it was time to email the lovely folks at Kate Spade and let them know about what happened. I didn’t expect anything in return, but I wanted them to know how one of their longtime customers was being treated. More of a heads up if anything.

So I penned a letter explaining exactly what happened. I told them I was saddened by the treatment I received. I spoke to the inconsistencies of their employees and the way being blatantly discriminated against in 2012, really, really sucks. I left all of my contact information and told them I would be glad to speak to someone about this in further detail as I want to make sure no one else leaves their store feeling the same way. They would HAVE to respond, right!? I mean that guy got an email back from the CEO of J. Crew in 4 minutes. I would certainly hear something back.

 Wrong. Straight Crickets.

This was back in January. Kate Spade is apparently too busy doing whateverthefuck Kate Spade does, to deal with a customer issue. Now I’m not trying to start a PR nightmare (lol not true) for Kate Spade, but this behavior is not acceptable. I was here for their overpriced accessories that are likely to fall apart, and all of the rest of their preppy goodness. I was even willing to overlook this one mishap if they had just responded. By ignoring my experience, Kate Spade is invalidating my feelings and concerns and for that I say FUCK YOU KATE SPADE.

I will now be giving even more of my money to J. Crew since they carry the same wallet, for less money, and it comes with better customer service.

Do better Kate Spade. Do fucking better.

eta: * White Paige, is not my friends real name. Just in case y’all were confused.

I would have went straight back into that fucking store and snatched wigs left and right.

Bitches would have gotten fired and I would have sent a letter to corporate several times telling what store, who it was and what happened until I got a response.

Fuck this bullshit. I get racist fucks fired

And I’ll bet you anything that twit at Kate Spade would insist that she’s not a racist, that she believes in equality, that she’s LIBERAL, that she’s a GOOD PERSON. Even though she said she’d need a receipt from a black woman who tried to return something but didn’t need one from the white woman who tried to return the very same thing.

^^^ yep.

I want to call that store and ask them about this. OP, may we mention this story? Which Lenox are we talking about?

The Downtown Women’s Center is up for a $100,000 grant to expand our job-training opportunities for homeless and extremely low-income women.

We serve some of the hardest to employ women on Los Angeles’ Skid Row by providing tiered support:

  • education opportunities tied to our on-site Learning Center
  • hands-on product development classes that offer alternative income to women who cannot enter the traditional workforce
  • one-on-one case management to help women establish short- and long-term goals and access other resources
  • on-the-job training through our two MADE by DWC social enterprises, a cafe and resale boutique
  • access to DWC’s comprehensive spectrum of services, including basic needs, meals, counseling, and holistic wellness programs offered through our on-site health clinic

Help us provide more paths out of homelessness. Vote for our project here, and please signal boost this.

(Voting ends on April 17, and the Goldhirsh Foundation will choose one winner from the top 10 projects in each category. We’re currently ranked second for Income and Employment. Get us to the top!)

The mission of the Downtown Women’s Center is to provide permanent supportive housing and a safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability, and to advocate ending homelessness for women.

Other reasons you might want to support DWC:

  • We provide 119 units of permanent supportive housing: 95% of the women who have lived with us stay housed for good.
  • Our MADE by DWC product line line emphasizes sustainable goods and includes organic soaps and candles, jewelry, ornaments, and upcycled picture frames and bound journals.
  • Our two social enterprises are local downtown LA businesses, and all store revenue goes back to our programs.
  • We serve more than 4,300 women a year through our Day Center (where we also provide 90,000 meals annually).
  • Our model focuses on increasing access to services, so we start by removing barriers to stability. We work with each woman, to identify her unique needs and goals and empower her to break the cycles of poverty and homelessness.

Have questions? Ask me.

(You can also support us by volunteering or donating.)

SIGNAL BOOSTING! The DWC does incredible work here in LA. Pleeeeease please please vote for them to win $100,000 so they can do even more good for homeless women in LA.

SPREAD THE WORD, PLEASE!

aigue-marine:

Today I was approached by an acquaintance of mine on Facebook. He asked me if I was interested in doing a Cosplay Video Interview for his new Facebook page “Cosplay: Not Just A Hobby”.
Having met this guy before I agreed and talked to his girlfriend about the formalities on Skype - She was supposed to be in charge during the interview which was fine for me.

Doing a Cosplay Video Interview in costume in front of a webcam is nothing new to me, so I dressed up and waited for the interview to start…

First of all everything was alright. The questions were normal “How did you get into cosplay?” “How long have you been cosplaying?”, etc. Everything was completely fine…

Until the “Interview” part was finished and the optional “Quizz” part started in which I had the chance to win a 2.000$ laptop.

I told the host of the interview I had no clue of the games she was going to ask me questions about, but she kindly asked me to give the whole quizz a try… Since I had nothing to lose I agreed and we started the quizz.

And right after I had answered the first question incorrectly the host told me to take a pieces of accessory/cloothing off…

To cut a long story short: I refused to take anything off, to continue the quizz or interview or whatever and wanted to stop the conversion. Which got me into a huge discussion with the host who complained that there was […] “Nothing scandalous in taking off a ribbon or an apron.” […]

Right. There IS nothing scandalous about it. But I’m a professional and I will NOT take off ANY part of my costume in front of a webcam to anybody ever. And WHAT PROFESSIONAL OWNER of a cosplay website would EVER ask an interview guest to do that?!

(At this point the host even pointed out that she wouldn’t record the quizz part and that the stripping - yes, I will call it by its name, stripping - was just for fun. The conversation continued like this:

[22:27:22] : “its not stripping, it’sjust a simple apron to try out the last two questions … -_-
[22:28:20] : and i’m not recording. i don’t need this kind of stuff.
[22:28:49] : because it is just the rule of the quiz, our sponsor doesn’t give free laptops.
[22:29:04] : no, because there is no video.
[22:29:09] : we just make it hard to win it.
[22:29:27] : it is simple, stand and remove the apron and we try a last question. it’s a prize after all.
[22:29:40] : no, i’m just trying to make you win something that has a value
[22:29:57] : just an apron, then you stop.
[22:30:08] : obviously no one is forcing you! i don’t want it :)”

I won’t go on any further… I’ll leave it at that.)

Anyways, at the very end the host left, telling me […] “she didn’t need any else from this attitude, really.” […]
I am extremely angry and ashamed I fell for this whole thing in the first place. Therefore I’d like to ask you:
